Across the Potomac, the Arlington neighborhood of Ballston has undergone a retail renaissance. Forest City has transformed Ballston Common into a model for experiential shopping centers. The renovations come as the Ballston office market fills in the gap government agencies have left behind, and as the D.C. office market overall experiences a comeback.

As the president of Forest City, Debby Ratner Salzberg oversees the neighborhood’s transformation, as well as many of the company’s development projects along the East Coast. Baker Tilly's Todd Stokes sat down with Ratner Salzberg to discuss emerging mixed-use markets like Baltimore and Richmond, Virginia, as well as the viability of D.C. for Amazon HQ2.
