Crystal City Promotes Workplace Wellness

More than just a hub for established companies and their talented workforces, Crystal City provides a community where the spirit of innovation can thrive, inside and outside the office.

Understanding that a healthy work-life balance is essential to the inspiration and germination of big ideas, the Crystal City Business Improvement District has introduced a number of workplace wellness initiatives.

One element of Crystal City that commuters during morning rush hours cannot help but notice is the number of people on bikes traveling around the neighborhood. With easy access to bike trails, over a dozen Capital Bikeshare stations and weekly services offered by Velofix Mobile Bike Shop, Crystal City prioritizes accessibility through this green and heart-healthy alternative to driving.

Biking is so popular among residents and workers that the BID makes National Bike to Work Day in May a weeklong celebration, welcoming morning riders with coffee, bagels and exclusive prizes, like coveted custom Crystal Ride jerseys.

Recognizing the importance of mental health and the various benefits of mindfulness, the Crystal City BID provides a number of resources for those looking to disconnect from the office environment to take a deep breath. From weekly Mid-Day Meditation to numerous yoga events like Monday Morning Yoga, Sunday Brunch Yoga at the Crystal City Sports Pub and a new Sunday night Yoga at the Fountain with Mind Your Body Oasis, Crystal City’s inhabitants can transform and grow just like its landscape and constituent companies.

Local employees can also get a quick, midday workout with lunchtime Zumba provided by Crystal Park Sport & Health, or, as the temperature cools, have a bouldering session at Earth Treks during the Trek Tuesdays program.

Bodies and brains need fuel, so the BID ensures there are many delicious and healthy food choices for the lunch rush. Events like Food Truck Thursdays and the weekly FRESHFARM Market bring the community together in support of local businesses and producers.

Crystal City’s active employees can be found strolling through the streets, sitting in the water park or taking a break from their office in one of its many outdoor spots, sharing in the wellness mentality that the BID fosters in its community.
