NFL to Hear from Oakland Raiders Fans Before Deciding SoCal Move

Placeholder

Debate on moving the Raiders to Southern California will land the NFL in Oakland this week to hear why the Raiders shouldn't jump ship.

The NFL is holding a public meeting in Oakland's Paramount Theatre (2025 Broadway) from 7pm to 10 pm Thursday to talk to Raiders fans. The league already held hearings in St. Louis yesterday concerning the possible relocation of those teams and is holding them in San Diego today. The Oakland Raiders are being lured by the $1.7M stadium approved by Carson, an LA suburb.

Talks of developing a $4B complex on the site of the O.co Coliseum in Oakland appear to have broken down. The city still has debt on the Coliseum that stretches to 2026. A new stadium alone could cost $1B or more.

Oakland already is suffering the loss of the Golden State Warriors as the basketball team readies for a move to its new San Francisco arena in time for the 2018-2019 season. That privately funded project, including the arena, offices, public plazas and restaurants, is expected to cost more than $1B.

There are no tickets left for Thursday's meeting. For those who can't attend, the hearing will be streamed live. [NFL, SFBT]
