Oracle America Inc. laid off more than 200 employees at its Redwood City location.

The layoffs went into effect on Oct. 3. Oracle filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification with the California Employee Development Department at the end of September.

News of the layoffs was first reported by The Information, with Oracle preparing to cut thousands of jobs from its global workforce as a cost-cutting measure, in an effort to save close to $1B in expenses.

In addition to layoffs in the San Francisco Bay Area, others are expected across Canada, India and Europe.

Oracle relocated its headquarters out of Redwood City to Austin in 2020, though the company maintained its offices at 500 Oracle Parkway, calling it a “hub," along with hubs in Orlando, Florida; Seattle; and Santa Monica, California, among others.

Tech layoffs have plagued the Bay Area in recent months. Twilio recently announced layoffs amid restructuring efforts. Several other Bay Area tech companies such as Coinbase and PayPal have instituted layoffs this year.
