Revolution Medicines Nearing Agreement For 700K SF Lease In Redwood City

Pacific Shores Center in Redwood City spans 106 acres along the waterfront in Redwood City.

Redwood City-based Revolution Medicines is in the process of inking a lease for 700K SF of life sciences space at Pacific Shores Center that would roughly double the company’s biotech footprint in the San Francisco Peninsula.

Revolution Medicines, which is developing and delivering a pipeline of medicines to treat cancer mutations, is expanding as it prepares for the commercial launch of a new drug.

The Food and Drug Administration in July accepted the drug for review, a key milestone toward bringing the oral medicine to market.

Revolution Medicine’s most recent expansion plans were first reported by the Silicon Valley Business Journal. The clinical-stage oncology company in 2020 leased 61K SF at 700 Saginaw Drive in Redwood City and has since expanded to more than 293K SF across seven buildings. It employs about 1,200 people and has more than 280 open positions posted on its website.

The company said in a statement to the SVBJ that it “continues to experience significant growth” and is “scaling our organization and capabilities to support our mission to revolutionize treatment for patients.”

Revolution Medicines is the latest tenant at Pacific Shores Center, a 106-acre campus that spans multiple buildings on Seaport Boulevard. Google in June sold three buildings at 1100, 1200 and 1300 Seaport Blvd. to an affiliate of Farallon Capital Management, The Mercury News reported.

Google was in an agreement to divest additional buildings at the life sciences campus to Harvest Properties, The Mercury News reported in June.

Revolution Medicines' growth is a bit of positive momentum for the Bay Area’s flagging life sciences industry, which has struggled to absorb a glut of inventory.

Overall vacancy among life sciences buildings stood at 31% in the second quarter, according to CBRE. Vacancy in the central Peninsula, however, topped 40%.

Life sciences tenants in the Peninsula gave back 641K SF in the first two quarters of the year, including 190K SF in the central Peninsula, leaving more than 7.2M SF worth of life sciences properties dark.
