Dick’s House Of Sport Coming To King Of Prussia Mall
The King of Prussia Mall is getting a new experiential retail destination curated by one of the nation’s most prominent sporting good chains.
A Dick’s House of Sport location signed on to occupy part of the Simon Property Group shopping center’s long-vacant former JCPenney location, the Philadelphia Business Journal first reported.
The extra-large stores, which often feature attractions like ice rinks, rock climbing walls and turf fields, have been opening at a fast clip nationwide.
“This dynamic concept brings elevated sports retail and immersive experiences that will energize the center, drive foot traffic, and enhance revenue,” Simon President of Development Mark Silvestri told Bisnow in a statement.
“It’s a powerful complement to the premier shopping, dining, and entertainment that make King of Prussia a top destination on the East Coast.”
The amount of space the store will occupy and its opening date are still up in the air, King of Prussia Mall Director of Marketing Todd Putt said in a statement.
Level99, an interactive gaming chain, is planning to open a 46K SF location on the first floor of the former JCPenney space, PBJ reported. The remainder of the vacant space comes out to 58K SF across the second and third floors.
Another Dick’s House of Sport is on the way at PREIT’s Cherry Hill Mall in South Jersey. The two-story, 120K SF outpost with an adjoining 10K SF turf field is replacing the One Cherry Hill office tower that was torn down in June.
Dick’s debuted the House of Sport concept in 2021 and opened the first locations in Pittsburgh and Columbus, Ohio.
The company purchased Foot Locker for $2.4B in May. The sneaker outlet was struggling — it had announced plans to close 400 stores between 2023 and 2026.
“The combination of [Dick's and Foot Locker] for the consumer is not the most important thing, it’s making sure that there’s two powerful brands that are meeting all consumer needs, wherever, whenever, however they want to shop,” Dick's CEO Lauren Hobart said at the time.
