Shared Office Space Comes to City Center

Shared space isn’t just for tech companies anymore—though they’re more than welcome, Pipeline Workspaces Todd Oretsky tells us. Entrepreneurs, startups, international business execs, and even some lawyers now want shared space (with a private office option). Todd and his partner Philippe Houdard (left), who opened their first Pipeline Workspace location in Miami, are now preparing to open their second in the Graham Building, across the street from City Hall in Center City. Pipeline Philly will occupy about 21k SF of the property.

The concept, he says, is built on the idea that sharing space with people whose expertise and business networks are different from yours is beneficial. “It gives you one degree of separation from anybody else within the community,” he explains, which can be a catalyst for new ideas. Pipeline, he says, will benefit from the fact that Center City location is home to more than 34% of the small businesses located in Philadelphia, and that the city overall has experienced a surge in the number of sole-proprietor businesses over the past 10 years.
