Massive 30th Street Station District Plan Unveiled

Placeholder

On Tuesday, a coalition of Brandywine Realty Trust, Amtrak, SEPTA and Drexel University unveiled the designs for the 30th Street Station District Plan, a project massive in scope and ambition.

As it turns out, the Schuylkill Yards development was only the beginning, a small part of a design to completely change the face of the area extending from the station to Fairmount Park, miles away. After Schuylkill Yards, the first phase of the project is slated to be a sky-lit concourse (rendered above) connecting the Amtrak station to the neighboring subway stop, reports Philly Voice.

After the concourse would be to cap the considerable rail yard to the north of 30th Street Station and put a new, urban neighborhood over it, bigger than Schuykill Yards and adjacent to University City. The concourse isn't expected to be completed until the 2020s, and if the entire project does come to fruition, it isn't projected to be finished until 2050. [Voice]
