Nonprofit Developer To Convert Kensington Factory Into Mixed-Use Property

The abandoned Orinoka Mills factory in Kensington has been conveyed by the Philadelphia Authority for Industrial Development (PAID) to a nonprofit developer to be turned into a $17.8M mixed-use development.

The developer, New Kensington Community Development Corp, plans to convert the facility into 7k SF of office space, 700 SF of retail and 51 apartment units. PAID will receive "nominal consideration" for the property, according to Philly.com.

The plan has been in the works since at least 2014, but with the property now officially transferred to New Kensington Community Development, the revitalization can begin in earnest, with Jibe Designs signed on as architects. [Philly]
