A bill that would have increased the allowable height for buildings along the Delaware River has been pulled from Philadelphia City Council.

Councilman Mark Squilla had introduced a bill to allow numerous additional height bonuses for community improvements, with a much higher limit than is currently allowed under the Central Delaware Overlay. The impetus was a proposed 10-building development from K4 Associates on the river across from Washington Street, but at the request of K4, Squilla withdrew the bill, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

A petition from locals concerned with overdevelopment was gaining traction as the bill it protested was set to come before the Council's Rules Committee on Tuesday, and a statement from K4 said the developer would spend the summer working with local groups on ideas to improve the area in light of the bill's withdrawal.
