On Saturday we headed back down to the National Mall for the Women's March on Washington! What many expected to be an organized march quickly turned into a massive rally with more than 500,000 people — women, girls, male supporters — filling not only the National Mall, but every adjacent street in the immediate area. We snapped a young demonstrator dressed as Lady Liberty with the newly renovated Capitol dome in the background.

After arriving near the US Capitol, we worked our way to the front of the March at 2nd Street and Independence Avenue SW. Marchers stretched as far as the eye could see, with thousands more arriving every minute.

Here local DC illustrator and blogger Lauren Friedman shows off a variation of one of her scarves, while also throwing it back to 2004's March for Women's Lives; the last large demonstration for women's issues on the National Mall.

As we progressed down the Mall, the organizing power of the internet became evident, as well as the profound effect it had in bringing people to DC and other cities around the world. Here, marchers descend upon the steps of the National Gallery of Art as people marched west toward the Washington Monument and finally the White House.
