Last night, we also joined Anatolian Artisans and other enthusiasts of Ottoman Jewelry for a night of arts and culture at the Turkish Ambassadors Residence. We snapped State Depts David Connell, NATOs Roy Thorvaldsen, Banu Syvertscn, and Turkish Embassy DCM Timur Soylemez.
Keynote speaker Dr. Gul Irepoglu, flanked by Turkish Culture and Tourisms Gamze Isci and Feriha Istar, discussed Ottoman history and jewelry. We learned that theybedazzled everything, from clothing to canteens, such as this traditional Ottoman caftan.
Later, guests enjoyed cocktails and dinner. Proceeds supported Anatolian Artisans, a non-profit that helps low-income Turkish artisans. Here, Shahin Mafi, artist Sheila Saleh, and The Georgetowners Mary Bird.
