Friday night, we went to the 14th annual SOME Jr. Gala at the National Museum of Women in the Arts.
More than 800 people attended the SOME, which stands for So Others Might Eat, fundraiser, where they walked the red carpet step and repeat and enjoyed cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, live music by the Blue Tips Rhythm Revue and a silent auction. We snapped junior gala co-chair Alden Barsness with the president of SOME, the Rev. John Adams, and SOME chief development officer Linda Parisi.
The Jr. Gala Board, led by a group of young professionals, was created 14 years ago to support the programs of SOME and to promote SOME’s work in the community. Proceeds from the event will benefit families living in SOME’s affordable apartments, including Fendall Heights, which opened in May 2013 for 29 veterans and their families. SOME’s goal is to combine safe, affordable housing with supportive services that help children and adults live increasingly independent and productive lives. Children living in SOME’s programs attend an after-school enrichment program that supports their educational and social development.
