Last night we went to the Shakespeare Theatre Gala, starting with a show at Harman Hall, and then walking to the National Building Museum for dinner and dancing.

Big congrats to Gala chairs Meg and John Hauge who, with co-chairs Suzanne and Glen Youngkin, raised a record-breaking $1M for the Shakespeare Theatre’s arts education programs. They're with one of the night's honorees, John Hurt, best known for his roles in Alien, The Elephant Man, and Harry Potter, here with his wife Anwen Rees Myers.

We snapped Stacy Keach, another of the three recipients of the Will Award, which recognizes artists who have made significant contributions to classical theatre in America. He is beloved by STC audiences for his portrayals of Richard III, Macbeth, King Lear, and, last season, Falstaff.
At the Harman Center, guests were treated to a show with five very different numbers, ranging from classical music from Much Ado About Nothing by violinist Sean Carpenter and pianist Mary Anne Hunstsman, to a modern dance based on Othello choreographed by Doug Elkins, to a rap song by the Q Brothers. The Beech Street Foundation received the Sidney Harman Award for Philanthropy in the Arts. Here, Council member Tommy Wells and his wife Barbara, a writer who’s a judge for the Helen Hayes Awards.
