Rum-B-Que!

Saturday, we went to the fourth annual Rum-B-Que at Jack Rose Dining Saloon in Adams Morgan. Rum Day DC’s closeout event followed a week of rum-inspired celebrations for National Rum Day. Lyon Distilling debuted on the DC bar scene; we snapped its owner Ben Lyon (with the bottle) flanked by Aaron Sheldon and 100 Proof Strategies’ Eric King; at right, his colleagues Jamie Windon, Kate Streckfuss, and Blake Johnson.

Bottomless rum punch stations featured six creations for guests to vote on their favorite concoction of premium rums, including Damoiseau and Clement. Our fave was the Nemo’s Roundhouse (Zacapa, Catoctin Creek Peach Brandy, Pierre Ferraro 1840 Cognac, lemon, lime, and tiki bitters). Here, The Gibson’s Andrea Tateosian, sponsor Drink Right’s Nikolai Konick, and Neat’s Aidan Demarest.

Rum United hosted the festivities, including rum tasting and education stations with the knowledgeable bar team and distillers. There were specialty rum-infused Rum-B-Que sauce smothered pork belly skewers and grilled chicken from the wood-fired grill to pair with the rum cocktails. Here, Sky Lounge Skincare’s Sabrina Carroll, @CityofGods’ Idris Coleman, Jedidah Jewelry Art’s Noreen Smith, Blacklisted’s Theo Wilhite, and Queen Beat’s Symba McQueen.
