We went to the Refresh VII opening reception at Long View Gallery. We snapped Long View Gallery curator and director Drew Porterfield with artist Cheryl Wassenaar, who works primarily with found and fabricated commercial signage, repurposing the discarded wood into visual metaphors of communication that borrow from the language of modernist painting, contemporary advertising and technology.

The new exhibit features new work by some of Long View's favorites, including Mike Weber, Ryan McCoy, Cheryl Wassenaar, Lori Katz, Colin Winterbottom and J. Jordan Bruns. Here, city planner Steve Cochran, Ingrid McCoy and her husband, Ryan McCoy, an artist known for his large iconic paintings in which he attempts to structure time, place and memory through materials.

In addition, the gallery premiered pieces by Baltimore artists Jessie Unterhalter and Katey Truhn. Here, Western Maryland Health System's Justin Cheesman; Dupont Circle Physicians Group's Brandt Ricca; and Allison Grinch, who works in account management.

Long View Gallery highlights the talent of of emerging and mid-career artists, features monthly exhibits, and provides access to a corporate art consulting branch whose diverse portfolio runs the gamut of abstract sculpture to photography. Refresh VII runs through March 19. Here, artist J. Jordan Bruns with Carolina Correa and the World Bank's Andreas Schliessler. Bruns is an accomplished landscape painter, whose current work focuses on order vs. chaos and what he describes as "narrative abstraction."
