We headed to the Howard Theater Friday night to hear the musical stylings of Questlove, the Grammy Award-winning frontman of the Roots and in-house band for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. We snapped the famed drummer, who traded in his sticks for turntables as he blended beats from music ranging from hip-hop to reggae, from Beyonce to Damian Marley.
The DJ, producer, drummer, actor, author, and designer told us he woke up at 5:00 AM that day to tape The Tonight Show before heading to DC. Questlove said he started performing at 13 and, 30 years later, still he can’t get enough of the industry.
His music knowledge stood out in his performance, which had his audience singing and dancing. In fact, Questlove’s music savvy has brought him recognition by Rolling Stone as #2 in The 50 Top Tweeters in Music.
