This month's theme was Punk Out!, which was inspired by Germany’s punk scene. Guests enjoyed a silent disco featuring punk music, David Bowie, after-hours access to the Phillips Collection exhibit by German artist Markus Lüpertz and a beer garden. The exhibit features Lüpertz paintings ranging from his earliest works along with more recent paintings over his five-decade career. Lüpertz, who began painting in a postwar Germany dominated by American abstract expressionism and pop art, has exhibited a preoccupation with the relationship between figuration and abstraction over the course of his career.
