Last night we also embraced the icy winds and trekked to Union Market’s Dock 5 for the National Symphony Orchestra kickoff ensemble concert of NSO in Your Neighborhood. We snapped Wells Fargo’s Joaquin Gallardo with NSO board member Linda Mercuro, her husband Tobias, and NSO supporter Katy Siddall.
The event sold out of 1,500 free tickets. Guests of all ages enjoyed food and drinks from Union Market’s acclaimed vendors, including Ris, Rappahannock River Oysters, Dolcezza Gelato and DC Empanadas. Glenn Donnellan, who plays a self-constructed electric violin made from a Louisville slugger and his NSO colleagues formed an ensemble that played a mix of rock ‘n’ roll, jazz and fiddling. We loved their rendition of Stairway to Heaven.
The evening concert kicked off a week-long schedule of festivities that brings free chamber music and orchestral concerts to all neighborhoods of DC, from Brookland to NoMa. Here, event sponsor Wells Fargo’s Angelica Serwatka, Carolyn Goya, Kendra Jordan and Kyle Moore.
