Over the weekend, we went to three elegant galas, starting Friday with a black-tie affair at the National Museum of African Art for its 50th anniversary.

The museum began as a private educational institution in 1964. Originally located on Capitol Hill in a townhouse that had been the home of Frederick Douglass, it became part of the Smithsonian Institution in 1979. Patron Joyce Page joins sponsor Evelyn Oputu, former ambassador of the African Development Bank Alice Dear and Women from Togo’s Dede Ahoefa Ekoue.
