Mother Courage!

Last night we went to the opening of Mother Courage and Her Children at Arena Stage starring Kathleen Turner.

We snapped the famed actress, an Academy Award nominee, who gave a very powerful performance, with her daughter Rachel Ann Weiss, an up-and-coming musician who performed a song for her mom during the post-show reception.

Using a David Hare translation, the show uses satire to paint an unforgettable portrait of war, updated with 10 pieces of original music in a rollicking, gypsy-punk style. And, in her professional singing debut, Kathleen Turner shows she can really belt 'em out!

The story of a tough-as-nails single mom determined to keep her family alive and her business afloat during war also starred Nicholas Rodriguez, who won people's hearts in Oklahoma.
