Last night we learned what DC real estate, cycling and after-school learning programs have in common.

It's Mitchell Schear, Vornado DC chief, cycling enthusiast and Higher Achievement Board chair. We snapped him at Dupont’s brand new Flywheel with its reps Alisa Holder and Suzanne Aiken where he sponsored a “Fly Higher” Charity Ride to celebrate Higher Achievement’s 40th Anniversary and the fitness center’s grand opening.

In three days, they raised over $10k for Higher Achievement, a rigorous after-school learning program that serves at-risk middle schoolers, by sponsoring cyclists in five sessions at Flywheel, which also contributed a portion of sales. Here, HA Ward 7 instruction manager Chris Perkins is bookended by Vornado’s Steve Kalthoff and Robb Parker.

Mitchell first became obsessed with Flywheel, which offers a gut-busting but fun workout, in the Hamptons. He’s even more enamored now that it’s in Vornado’s Universal Building at 1927 Florida Ave NW. The studio offers 66 bikes in stadium style seating, the largest of all 33 locations in the US. We snapped this as the lights dimmed and the sweat and music got pumping.

Whether raising money for a great cause or working on fitness, Mitchell adopts the Flywheel motto: never coast.
