Wednesday we went to the Butterfly Bash 2017 kickoff event at the home of Elisabeth Cohen (left), shown here with Fair Chance founder Amanda Marshall, Elizabeth Spratt Cooper and Fair Chance Executive Director Gretchen Van der Veer.

The party was presented by 2017 Butterfly Bash co-chairs Elizabeth Spratt Cooper and Elisabeth Cohen. Guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and cocktails and learned more about the upcoming bash. Here are some of the Butterfly Bash host committee members -- Andrew Sokol, David Cohen (who also co-hosted the kickoff party), Scott Provinse of Hypatia and Mark Paster of Patient First.

This year’s Butterfly Bash will welcome more than 700 guests and 50 corporate sponsors for an evening of drinks, bites, live music and dancing on Friday, Oct. 13, at Union Market’s Dock 5. Proceeds support Fair Chance’s work improving the lives of children in DC’s most underserved communities. Since 2002, Fair Chance has partnered with over 100 nonprofits and opened doors to opportunity for more than 80,000 children. Here, Fair Chance committee member Chloe Holderness, Fair Chance advisory board member Alicia Sokol of barre3, and Fair Chance committee member Sarah Jackson of Oracle.

This year, Fair Chance will partner with nonprofit organizations such as Bethany House, Chase your Dream Academy, Food for Life, Inner City Inner Child, Homeless Children’s Playtime Project, Project Create, Generation Hope and Empowerment Enterprise, whose executive director Julius Green spoke at the kickoff event.
