DC Teachers!

Last night we headed to the Kennedy Center for the fifth annual Standing Ovation for DC Public Schools teachers presented by the DC Public Education Fund.

DCPS' best and brightest educators were given awards for Excellence in Teaching and Leadership, and Teacher and Principal of the Year; 1,400 of the city's teachers were recognized. We snapped Powell Elementary School's Kaila Ramsey, 1776's Matthew Garza, NC4's George Johnson and Eastern High School's Lauren Johnson.

1,800 community members, business leaders and education champions attended the moving ceremony, applauded the passionate teachers, and were treated to a special performance by singer Josh Groban. Here, DOD's Arlene George, Washington Metropolitan High School's Maria Miles, DCPS' Lisa Gallagher and Blue Skies' Matthew Schafer.

Guests then celebrated at a reception on the Terrace with beef skewers, chicken and olives, cous cous and falafel. Here, DCPS' Jenni Lewis, Andrew Whiting and Elizabeth Goff.

All proceeds went to the DC Education Fund to support DCPS initiatives. Here, DCPS' Kate Mester, Dewayne McClary and Stacy Tedesco, and AECOM's Jill Bruning.
