Children’s Ball!

Friday, we went to the Children’s Ball 2017 at The Ritz-Carlton!

The Children’s National Health System event featured hundreds of business leaders, government officials, community leaders and advocates who raised critical funds to improve children’s health and invest in the future of pediatric medicine. We snapped David Marriott, Eastern Region chief operating officer at Marriott International, flanked by event co-chairs Carrie Marriott, Amy Baier and Mae Grennan.

Here is one of the event’s speakers: Molly Barcalow, flanked by her parents Christy and Shawn. In August 2014, Molly was diagnosed with a very rare form of leukemia. The only chance for survival was a bone marrow transplant. Fortunately, Molly’s brother was a perfect bone marrow match. After four months of intense chemotherapy and full body radiation, Molly had her bone marrow transplant on Dec. 8, 2014, at Children’s National Medical Center.

Since becoming the signature fundraising event of Children’s National in 2007, the Children’s Ball has raised more than $26M to fund advances in research, care and advocacy for children’s health. Here, Alison Newman with her husband, Children’s National Medical Center CEO Kurt Newman, HITT Contracting co-president Brett Hitt and his wife, Kris Hitt.

This year’s theme was Pioneering the Future and reflects Children’s National’s goal to take already exceptional care for children and families to new frontiers through innovative care and cutting-edge research. Here, Lee Verstandig and his wife, Toni Verstandig, one of the Children’s Ball co-chairs.

Children’s National Health System has been serving the nation’s children since 1870. With a community-based pediatric network, seven regional outpatient centers, an ambulatory surgery center, two emergency rooms, an acute care hospital, and collaborations throughout the region, Children’s National is recognized for its expertise and innovation in pediatric care and as an advocate for all children. Here, Children’s National’s Lindsay Coursen and Collins + Wilson’s Hope Wheeler.
