Annie!

Last night we also went to opening night of Annie at the National Theatre. The beloved Tony-winning musical, which premiered in 1977, is a new production with a great new set, directed by Martin Charnin and starring 11-year-old Heidi Gray as Annie. Macy the dog also got loud applause as Sandy.

Many of the girls who played Annie through the years have gone on to become stars, such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Alyssa Milano and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Carol Burnett, Jane Lynch and Cameron Diaz have played Miss Hannigan, played in this production by Lynn Andrews, right, here with her brother and his girlfriend plotting to get Annie from Oliver Warbucks. We can’t stop humming "You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile" and "Tomorrow."

The show is only here for one week, running at the National through this Sunday, March 20. Still smiling afterward, we snapped K Street Magazine's Kate Michel and hospitality writer, lobbyist and beekeeper Michael Woesthoff.
