We headed to The Ritz-Carlton Pentagon City for the Armed Services YMCA's 10th annual Angels of the Battlefield Awards Gala! We snapped USAA's and Hiring Our Heroes National Award recipient Michael Kelly with USAA SVP Harriet Dominique.

The Angels of the Battlefield Awards Gala is an Armed Services YMCA special event that honors the individual men and women on the front lines who are saving lives and demonstrating extraordinary courage. Here, USAA's John Bird with US Coast Guard vice admiral Sandy Stosz, who presented the award to the Coast Guard honoree, Ryan Ransom.

Each year, the Armed Services YMCA recognizes a single individual from each military branch for their accomplishments on the front lines. Here, Alfrieda Phillips joins her grandson, US Navy honoree Elgie O. McCoy Jr., and his mother, Kisha Phillips.

Angels is the only event that recognizes the front line actions of military medical personnel. Here, Army honoree SFC Daniel Lopez-Bonaglia joins Jill Reichelderfer and her son, US Marine Corps honoree, US Navy petty officer 2nd class Nick Otazo.

Guests enjoyed a lavish VIP reception prior to the main awards gala. Here, US Air Force honoree Cody Inman joins his wife, Michelle Inman, with Rose Youster and her husband, USAF's George Youster.

During the gala guests heard from Marine Corps Gen. Joe Dunford, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who recognized combat medics, corpsmen and pararescuemen. Here, USMC's Mel Spiese and his wife, Filomena Spiese, join Mary Coglianese and her husband, USMC Maj. Gen. Vincent Coglianese.

The Armed Services YMCA consists of about 500 employees, 10,000 volunteers and 34 branches supporting more than 500,000 troops and family members in the past year.
