Friday was the 41st Annual GWHCC Gala at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. The keynote speaker was Henry R. Muñoz III, CEO and chief idea officer of Munoz & Co. and National Finance Committee chair of the Democratic National Committee. Munoz has also been a designer, philanthropist and cultural activist. The Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce celebrated the D.C. region’s Latino leaders at their black tie gala that featured an award ceremony, seated gourmet dinner and dancing reception with more than 300 of the region’s business leaders and influential Latino entrepreneurs in attendance. GWHCC presented five awards to changemakers in our region. The award for Government Leader of the Year went to Jackie Reyes, the executive director of the D.C. Mayor’s Office of Latino Affairs. The Nonprofit Organization Leader of the Year went to María Fernanda Borja, the Latino Student Fund president and CEO. The Community Service Leader of the Year was awarded to Gabriela Mossi, the executive director of the Washington English Center. Here, former GWHCC president and CEO Angela Franco flanked by D.C. The GWHCC supports the economic development of the Greater Washington metropolitan area and facilitates the success of Hispanic and other minority-owned businesses, and the communities they serve, through networking, advocacy, education and access to capital.
