Making DC History Awards!

We went to the third annual Making DC History Awards at Carnegie Library at Mt. Vernon Square, presented by the Historical Society of DC. It honored eight DC-based organizations that have helped create, define and preserve the city’s heritage. We snapped the night's emcee, NBC4's Wendy Rieger, Legacy Families of Washington Award winner Ourisman Co CEO John Ourisman, and The Glenmede Trust Co's Caroline Hickey.

The Historical Society of DC was founded in 1894 and is dedicated to knowledge of DC by collecting rapidly disappearing records of events and individuals. Here, Distinction in Historic Preservation awardee Wagner Roofing owners Sheila and Chuck Wagner flanked by Chuck's brother Jack Wagner and accounting manager Sarah Reynolds.

An honoree reception was followed by a buffet dinner, remarks and awards presentation. Here, Woodstream Church's Kai Shanks, Legacy Families of Washington Award recipient Charles Cassell and JVB's Julie Van Blair.

The evening concluded with an after party, the Bootlegger's Ball, with a Prohibition-era theme and 1920s decor. Clyde's Restaurant Group won the Award for Distinction in Corporate Achievement; here, its senior executive officer Ginger Laytham, her husband, CEO John Laytham, co-owner and Board chair Sally Davidson, and president Tom Meyer.
