On Friday, the University of DC David A. Clarke School of Law is presenting The Vagina Monologues for the first time. Among the performers, you'll see UDC Law Dean Shelley Broderick (above), Associate Dean Laurie Morin and professor Melissa Gill.
UDC Law V-Day 2016 co-director Dara Gold tells us that Dean Broderick and Dean Morin will be performing the "My Revolution Begins in the Body" monologue alongside local actresses. Professor Gill is performing "Not-So-Happy Fact." All three of them will be joining the entire cast to perform the "Introduction" piece and "The Wear and Say Lists."
The event is a collaboration between the school's International Human Rights Law Student Association and Women's Law Society, and local actors and members of the community. It'll highlight the need to protect human rights, women's rights and social justice, and the utility of theater as a tool for activism.
Proceeds benefit the Amara Legal Clinic, which gives pro bono legal counsel to individuals whose rights have been violated through commercial sex, such as survivors of sex trafficking, in the DC area.
