Top Lawyers Bartend For a Cause

Dupont Circle bar Thomas Foolery hosted the Washington Council of Lawyers this week for a happy hour with two guest bartenders: Jenner & Block Supreme Court practice chair Paul Smith and Georgetown Law Dean William Treanor. Both are on the nonprofit's honorary board. All tips for the celeb bartending duo went to WCL.

We snapped WCL executive director Nancy Lopez, right, with Avis Buchanan, the director of the Public Defender Service for DC. Nancy's headed WCL—which promotes access to justice through pro bono and public interest law—for five years; before that she spent time at Legal Aid and Steptoe. On top of beer and wine from the bar, guests enjoyed cookies and tater tots.

Baker & McKenzie compliance and investigations partner Ken Jull was in from Toronto to advise clients on new Canadian debarment rules. We snapped him with Evolver Legal Services' Jennifer Yankeliovich. Ken tells us that the revised rules can prevent companies convicted of "integrity offenses" from contracting with the government for up to 10 years.
