US Solicitor General Donald Verrilli will step down June 24, after spending five years in the position, making him America's seventh-longest-serving SG. Deputy SG Ian Gershengorn will be appointed acting solicitor general, officials told the Wall Street Journal.
(We snapped the US SG here at a Southern Center for Human Rights awards dinner in 2013 with Susan Levy, then the managing partner of Jenner & Block. Verrilli formerly headed the law firm's Supreme Court practice.)
Verrilli's post-SG plans aren't yet announced, other than he'll take a long vacation, which he may start before all of the Supreme Court's opinions have been announced.
