SHEILA SEARS - HITT CONTRACTING

Sheila Sears joined HITT Contracting Inc in 2013 after eight years with a boutique construction litigation firm. For HITT, an ENR Top 100 general contractor and the third-largest general contractor in the DC region, she's the first General Counsel in its 75-year history. She says it's a reflection of the growth of the company in volume and geographic expansion. Founded as a small, family-run business in Arlington, HITT is now along the $1B revenue mark and has offices in six states and works in around 40. Sheila's the one lawyer in-house handling all legal matters, and she also leads the company's risk management team that includes non-lawyer subject-matter experts in areas such as insurance, contracts and safety. Sheila also sits on HITT's corporate steering committee, the company's governing body. In the next month, she says the company is rolling out a new website and continuing to increase its presence on social media.

What you didn't know about Sheila:

  • She loves silly dance parties in the kitchen with her preschool-aged daughter and one-year-old goldendoodle puppy.

  • Her guilty pleasure is all things pop culture.

  • She became partner at her former law firm and then HITT's general counsel by the age of 35.
