Lethal injection is getting a Supreme Court review, reports ProPublica. The case stems from a petition from Oklahoma death row inmates, who say using the drug midazolam in the state's three-drug execution cocktail could constitute "cruel and unusual punishment," as it is ineffective in blocking pain. In the meantime, three of the state's executions are on hold while the capital punishment process is under review. Lethal injection was previously reviewed in the US seven years ago, writes ProPublica; the Court ruled favorably on Kentucky's procedure. An oral argument in the Oklahoma case is expected in April and an opinion by July.
