Lawyers agree that it’s a good time to practice retail in the DC area, and have seen opportunity at budding hotspots like Pike & Rose and in the specialty restaurant space. Shulman Rogers' retail and restaurant practice team members Marc Bergoffen, Michael Fellerman, Scott Museles, Sam Spiritos, Alexis Peters, and chair of their real estate practice, Doug Hirsch, tell us their firm continues to help Founding Farmers grow in the region. The 100-lawyer firm takes great pride in helping clients with “meaningful connections” to both capital and potential business partners, says Sam. After initially representing the restaurateurs in a JV with the North Dakota Farmers Union (which created a sustainable supply chain for the farm-to-table eatery), Shulman Rogers then helped them acquire the capital to launch the two most recent locations (MOCO and Tysons), which are thriving. And Scott is currently helping Farmers with another soon-to-be-unveiled restaurant venture.

Additionally, the retail group with Goulston & Storrs has also been "very active" in the DC region and elsewhere on the East Coast. "Locally, we have been involved with a number of mixed-use developments, including Wisconsin Place and Pike & Rose (pictured),” says Goulston & Storrs partner Mark Jackson. He adds the firm is also busy in New England, where it is involved in the Seaport Square project and the redevelopment of the area surrounding Fenway Park.
