A Centennial Celebration

Jenner & Block turns 100 this year, and just celebrated its centennial in DC with 245 lawyers, clients, and firm alums. Here's firm chairman Tony Valukas, MIT DC office head William Bonvillian, Jenner DC office founding attorney and Howe & Hutton of counsel Leland Badger, and DC office managing partner Dave DeBruin. The 32-year-old DC office is Jenner's first outside of Chicago. (We also joined in the founding-office anniversary celebration earlier this year.)

Former US associate AG Tom Perrelli founded and heads the firm's government controversies and public policy litigation practice. (During a previous stint at the firm, he also created its Chambers Band 1 content, media & entertainment group.) He's with US Customs and Border Patrol assistant director and Jenner alum Kevin Landy, CenturyLink senior corporate counsel and alum Doug Hsiao, UDC GC Scott Barash, and (kneeling) complex commercial litigation co-chair Jerry Epstein.

Jenner M&A chair Tom Monson and corporate practice chair Joe Gromacki flank partner Elaine Wolff and alum John Welsh. The firm's been involved with a lot in its 100-year history (think MCI, Lehman Brothers' bankruptcy, GM's IPO, Lawrence v. Texas, and the Warren Commission), but you don't have to go far back for notable news. Just this year, the appellate and Supreme Court practice chaired by DC's Paul Smith repped clients before the Supreme Court in Aereo, Harris v. Quinn, and Law v. Siegel.

After serving as DHS chief privacy officer, Mary Ellen Callahan joined Jenner & Block to start and head its privacy practice. She's here with FTC attorney Megan Gray and Alix Partners director Thomas Antisdel. Guests enjoyed bourbon lime rickeys, sushi and sashimi, Mediterranean and Italian fare, sirloin sliders, and, for dessert, chocolate-dipped cheesecake-on-a-stick.
