Now Open on 14th: BakeHouse

Husband-and-wife team Niall Cooper and BakeHouse bakery, cafe, and coffeehouse at 14th and T Wednesday, a welcome addition among the many higher-priced new dining options in the area. Not just sweets: the shop also offers hearty savory scones stuffed with goodies like sausage, cheddar and fennel. Breakfast sandwiches will also be available, as well as oatmeal, yogurt parfaits, and other breakfasty options. For lunch, salads will be offered, along with hot and cold sandwiches made in-house on bread from Lyon bakery. Coffee comes from Baltimore-based Zeke's roasters, and tea from Boston-based Tealuxe.

While savory options are plentiful, the sweets are naturally the focus. Cupcakes and cookies range from familiar flavors with high-quality ingredients (vanilla bean cupcakes and Callebaut chocolate chip cookies) to creative twists (Irish coffee cupcakes and Chinese five-spice sugar cookies). Chocolate lovers will enjoy the three-bite truffle tarts in flavors like spicy cinnamon and orange blossom pistachio. There are plenty of options for non-chocolate lovers as well, like the sticky toffee pudding mini-bundt cake or the cardamom carrot mini-cake. Even the house-made lollipops come with a twist, with flavors like vanilla bean brulee.

For those with mobile offices, WiFi will be available on weekdays.Given the large population of pooches in the area, locals will enjoy the fact that dogs are welcome on Bakehouse's patio. They also sell housemade peanut butter doggie treats, so Fido will keep his paws off your tart.Hours: Mon-Thurs: 7am-9pm, Fri: 7am- 11pm, Sat: 8am-11pm, Sun: 8am-9pm.
