Alexandria-based WhosHere has grown to 15 million registered users, says founder Stephen Smith. (Two years ago the company was at five million.) The app helps people connect based on location, mostly for dating. Stephen says the growth in users is largely coming from the Middle East, where people are using it for virtual dating. Stephen says it’s not culturally acceptable for singles to publicly flirt or meet other singles in many Middle Eastern countries. The team has grown to six with a marketing person coming on board soon and the company is profitable, says Stephen.
