Almost every article about the shocking murder charge against DC tech star Minh Nguyen mentioned his co-founding of Plaxo with Napster's Sean Parker. Turns out, he never worked there. The depths of Minh's deceptions are still being revealed, but it seems that Plaxo (a Silicon Valley-based online address book and social networking service) would regularly update its Wikipedia page to remove Minh from the co-founders list and then Minh would add it back in. With scores of media covering Minh’s recent arrest for murdering his ex-wife’s husband in Ashburn, VA, Plaxo’s former marketing VP John McCrea, above, (now CMO of MediaSpike) has been setting the record straight.

Minh was deeply connected in the DC tech scene, and his battle with Plaxo either wasn’t well known, or if it was, people ignored it. Minh advised several well-known startups and business groups, was asked to judge business competitions, and was accepted into the 2012 Mindshare class, an invite-only mentoring program for entrepreneurs. “Once he had the Plaxo lie widely believed, he parlayed it into one thing after another,” John said. “I feel terrible for the families, of course. But I also feel bad for the startups whom he advised. I wonder what tales he made up about his insights from working at Plaxo?” For the record, Plaxo was co-founded by J. Todd Masonis, Cameron Ring and Sean Parker.
