Speek Gets Acquired

Speek, a conference calling app we've covered before, was acquired by Utah-based Jive Communications. The company spent time in the AOL Fishbowl (where we snapped this pic) and Disruption Corp’s Crystal City space, but had laid off most of its staff, reports the Washington Business Journal. Jive, launched in 2006, has a unified communications platform for businesses, but details were unclear as to how Speek would integrate its technology. Speek founder John Bracken (left), who also co-founded Evite, did not comment for the WBJ’s story. Speek's website was also taken down as of Thursday morning. [WBJ]

Speek’s launch party two summers ago attracted tech vets like Proxicom founder Raul Fernandez (blue blazer), who’s also vice chairman of Monumental Sports & Entertainment and chairman of ObjectVideo, and Nextel founder Morgan O’Brien (yellow blazer). The product was also endorsed by actor Ed Norton, whose tweet about the service doubled Speek’s registrations in one day. And who could forget about John’s famous tattoo.
