SAIC's marine mammal employees are donating over 1,000 hours of volunteer service in Southern California, working with the National Marine Mammal Foundation to care for and feed stranded sea lion pups in Laguna Beach and LA. For the last two years, hundreds of malnourished, starving wild sea lion pups have been washing up on beaches. The NMMF thinks it may be because of fewer nutrient-rich fish, an increasing sea lion population and rising ocean temps. Already this year (remember it’s only March), over 1,400 stranded sea lion pups have been picked up by rescue networks. SAIC volunteers will also help rehabilitate the animals back into the wild.
