Framebridge's Plan for 2016

Framebridge is on a roll this year, and 2016 is looking even brighter. The DC-based online and mobile service for custom framing of art and photos hired former Zappos fulfillment operations director Anthony Vicars to run operations. Some of his biggest tasks include designing systems to improve order fulfillment rates and expanding operations to accommodate increased sales and help create over 50 new manufacturing jobs over the next year or so. He’ll also help the company open a second facility in Kentucky for shipping.

Founder and CEO Susan Tynan says the 65-person company, which has raised $11M from NEA, Revolution Ventures and LivingSocial founder Tim O’Shaughnessy, will double head count in 2016. The company, whose launch was inspired by Susan’s frustration with getting art framed, is scaling and growing 20% month-over-month.

Prices are set and based on the size of the frame and people have the convenience of designing and ordering framing for their artwork through the company’s mobile app and website. Artwork is mailed in using Framebridge’s mailing kit or by uploading photos directly from the customer’s computer or Instagram. The workflow technology allows the company to finish a framing job within 48 hours. Susan says the company has framed tens of thousands of pieces since launching last year.

The company also recently opened a pop-up shop and gallery in Georgetown. The pop-up showcases framed pieces by local artists and allows people to meet by appointment with designers for face-to-face design consulting.
