Alexandria entrepreneur John Carney is headed to Russia this month with four of his five children to climb Mount Elbrus, the highest summit in Eastern Europe at 18,510 feet. His two daughters, Dever (24) and Julia (21), climbed with John to Everest Base Camp this past spring. He was set to climb Everest when 16 Sherpa were killed in an avalanche. (They’re standing in front of the Khumbu Ice Fall, three days before.) John, founder of Carney Labs and Carney Inc., and an Army veteran, has already climbed five of seven of the highest mountains and “mushed” a dog sled to the North Pole. And we thought pole vaulting over the couch to get to the kitchen was impressive.
