Last summer, Stephen Smith told us his Alexandria company's social discovery app, WhosHere, reached a whopping 15 million registered users. This summer, the company launched a messaging app that Stephen is hoping sees the same kind of viral growth. EMwithME, which offers text, voice, video and photo messages, was inspired by lessons learned from WhosHere, one of the first apps in the iTunes app store in July 2008. Users have used it to send over 10 billion messages.
EMwithME users can take back a message, literally wiping it off the recipient’s device (wish we had that in college). It also has unlimited group texts—so feel free to text your entire neighborhood (users can also exit the group if they want). One cool feature are “AKA” profiles to use on sites like Match.com, Craigslist and eBay. People can contact them and chat via the AKA and then delete the AKA once they find love or a gently used couch. (In some cases, those are the same thing.)
