Insight is turning the former site of the Apollo Theater into 430 ultra-luxe condos and 70k SF of retail, anchored by a 40k SF Whole Foods. The project is slated to deliver early next year.

The high-end grocery store brings the emerging retail of the corridor to new heights and further demonstrates the changing atmosphere surrounding the H Street Corridor. The locals who are nervous about the gentrification of one of DC's more authentic, "cool" neighborhoods may grumble, but the grocer figures to do big business in an area of DC that simply doesn't have many fresh food options.

The Haymaker

Chef Matt Cordes, opted to reverse course and shuttered the Atlas Room this spring. Located along the H Street Corridor, the restaurant has been converted into a "bar-focused concept."

Cordes told The Washington Post that he wanted to offer residents a high-quality dining experience that matches the vibe of the changing area without emptying their wallets.

The trendy new spot embraces the urban chic motif the H Street Corridor is beginning to embody.

The Dirty Goose

A new LGBT-friendly bar will be opening its doors along the U Street corridor this week. The Dirty Goose at 913 U St NW is the latest addition to the area's celebrated nightlife scene.

In total, the bar spans 3,297 SF across two floors. On the border of U Street and Shaw, The Dirty Goose joins Nellie's Sports Bar as gay-friendly watering holes in one of DC's most diverse areas.

District Distilling Co

U Street has been DC's hottest bar scene for some years, and the craft brewing industry has taken off like a rocket in parts of Northeast and the NoVa suburbs.

But the first company to make its own liquor—and serve it in its tasting room—is opening next Friday at 14th and U streets: District Distilling Co.

The craft distillery already plans on making bourbon, gin and vodka, and the tours and tastings will be perfect for the bar crowd to test out the "liquor before beer, you're in the clear" theory of hangover prevention.
