TPG Hotels & Resorts has been selected to operate the first Moxy hotel in the District, and will co-develop the property along with Douglas Development.
Moxy is a contemporary lifestyle brand hotel (read: Millennial-targeting) owned by Marriott International. The DC location, known as Moxy DC Hotel, will be on the corner of 11th and K streets and is slated to open Q1 2017.
Douglas owns the property to be developed and is aiming for a design that will capture the essence of the Moxy brand while incorporating an existing historic building. We should call this "Jemal-ing" from here on out.
Plans call for a 13-story, 200-room hotel that will feature a rooftop lounge and a street-level outdoor patio. The hotel will also feature a live Instagram Wall, which will be designed to capture real-time images from Moxy travelers across the world.
TPG will manage the property upon completion and provide assistance to Douglas throughout the development process. The first Moxy Hotel opened in Milan back in 2013. Locations in New Orleans and Tempe will be opening soon, with several future ones on tap, including hotels in Berlin, London and Nashville, which are scheduled to open this year.
