Bethesda-based Marriott International is aiming to make a decision about its new HQ by the end of 2016.
The company has completed its wish list for the new digs and is in the process of screening brokerages to narrow its options, the Washington Business Journal reports. Locations in DC, Maryland and Virginia are in the mix, and speculation has centered on CBRE, JLL and Savills Studley making the short list of consideration for the eventual nod.
The well-publicized search has captured the imagination of landlords and officials across the region since being announced last year. The company makes its home at 10400 Fernwood Rd in Bethesda, where it occupies almost 1M SF with a lease set to expire in 2021. The company has noted a preference for convenient access to public transportation for its new home, with the flexibility to customize space and deploy its preferred technology.
Gensler has been retained by the hotel giant to assist with sorting through the options. Back in December, Marriott CEO Arne Sorensen raised the possibility that the company could wind up in more than one building, noting the impracticality of finding one building to house its massive space requirements.
