With ramping developments, classy dining and used bookstores, Shaw and Mt. Vernon Triangle are entering a new age.

Shaw Stories

1. The New York Times looks at how Shaw has recovered and even gentrified since the tragic riots following Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination in 1968.

2. The District has solicited proposals for one of Shaw’s central parcels—Parcel 42, which is just across from the Shaw Library at 7th and R streets NW—through a process known as Our RFP, and has received proposals from six different teams.

3. Sugar Shack Donuts (pictured, left)—a Richmond-based doughnut chain growing its footprint in the DC area—is close to finishing a lease for a space in Shaw, although owner Rob Krupicka declined to identify an exact location until the deal is signed.

4. Some Shaw residents aren't happy with plans to add more bike lanes through the neighborhood.

5. A slideshow tracks the retail developments that are "breathing new life" into Shaw, redefining it as one of the District’s most desirable destinations for small retailers and the creative class.

Mt. Vernon Triangle Stories

1. The American Israel Public Affairs Committee's plan to expand its HQ in Mount Vernon Triangle is now the subject of a Superior Court battle.

2. Peebles Corp announced that SBE—a LA-based luxury lifestyle and hospitality company—and its subsidiary, Dakota Development, will develop and manage the SLS Lux Hotel & Residences (pictured right) in Mt. Vernon Triangle.

3. 450k, a residential development in Mt. Vernon Triangle, was featured on a list of the most beautiful rentals in DC. The property features a rooftop deck and lap pool, an espresso bar, a fitness center, a zen garden and apartments with walk-in closets, balconies and kitchens with quartz countertops and movable islands.

4. The Washington Post studied Mt. Vernon's "sea of construction" that's radically changing the neighborhood.

5. The DC Bar announced it would be purchasing land in Mt. Vernon Triangle to design and develop a new HQ.
