A Howard County husband and wife who own a commercial real estate firm died Monday night in what police are investigating as a domestic murder-suicide.
Lancelotta Real Estate co-owners Samuel and Beth Lancelotta were found by police in the backyard of their Ellicott City home at about 10:40 p.m. on Monday, the Washington Business Journal reports. They were both 48.
The couple had three teenage children, Jake, Cole and Clay, whom police say were home at the time of the shooting. One of the sons called the police to alert them of a shooting in the yard. Police believe the husband shot his wife and then himself, but the motive of the shooting remains unknown.
The two founded Lancelotta Real Estate in 1998, where they were involved in more than $1B worth of real estate deals, including Clarksville Professional Center and Fulton Ridge, according to their website.
