Association: Founded in 1919, CBA has 61 corporate members, including large financial institutions and regional banks, collectively holding over half of the industry's total assets.
How members are recruited: Board and committee members make recommendations. Meet with leaders at prospective institutions in person at their offices or conferences.
Board: 24 members, representing cross-section of banks and asset sizes. Board meets in person or by phone four times a year. CBA’s 10 standing committees meet in person at least twice a year and by phone monthly.
Biggest challenges: Industry is in a time of immense technological and regulatory change. In the past, banks brought innovation to the consumer--ATM, drive-thrus or online banking. Now consumers are setting the agenda and banks that don't adapt will pay a price. Banks are also jumping through hoops to comply with a vast amount of new rules and regulations--something we call “regulatory Olympics.”
Public policy: Have an opportunity with incoming 114th Congress to re-examine the Dodd-Frank Act after five years in action. CBA will work with both parties to perfect the CFPB leadership to a commission structure, reforming the Financial Stability Oversight Council, and requiring regulators to analyze the economic impact of new regulations.

Why DC: Worked as district director for Rep. Jim McCrery (R-La.). Started as his driver and then asked me to relocate to D.C. to be his chief of staff. “Short stay” has turned into a long visit.
